Because the Ploughing is so big, we spent today thinking and learning ways for kids to stay safe and not get lost!!!
The Ploughing Group have their own child safety initiative in operation. Together with FBD they will be handing out wristbands. The white wristbands, which will be handed-out at all of the event entrances, will allow for a contact phone number to be written on the band in the event that the wearer wanders off amidst the crowd. This is an excellent idea, but another idea in case they run out of wristbands or yours gets torn off/wet or falls off, you could get your parents to write their name and phone number on your arm and spray waterproof plaster or paint liquid bandage over it. This will ensure that it doesn't rub or wash off during the day - it also will look like a pretty cool tattoo!
Obviously getting lost is a bad scenario - how do we prevent this?
1. Stay close to your parents.
2. Hold their hands.
3. Tell them if you are going to look at something, especially if your looking at something up high, they might not think to look up when they cant see you.
4. Have a safe meeting point if you are old enough to go off by yourself and know how to find your way there.
5. If you do get lost - don't panic, stay calm, find an official (they usually have reflective jackets) or a garda and tell them you are lost. If you cannot see an official or a garda, tell one of the stand owners, they will know how to contact the office and someone will come to your aid.
Parents please: Keep your children with you at all times.
